Sir E. Grey recognizes the difficulty of saying
what is a fair scale of remuneration for professional
services in a matter such as the one in question and
he is aware that any estimate can be only of an
approximate character, but after due consideration he
would suggest for the favourable consideration of the
Lords Carissioners that Ten guineas might very reason-
ably be allotted to Counsel, this sum to include the
clerk's fees, and Twenty guineas to the solicitors
which sun would include the urll disbursements they
refer to in the enclosed letter.
Sir E. Grey understands that the case was very
well conducted for the Appollant and that important
general principles underlying a very difficult question
of criminal law were involved, and he therefore trusta
that their Lordships will give their sanction to the
allowances proposed.
I am, Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
n
